During
the course of my studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I took an
elective course in cosmetic acupuncture by a highly respected master
of TCM. The first woman I practiced my technique on happened to have
a very youthful, healthy face, so the results weren’t terribly
dramatic. It wasn’t until years later when my mother complained
about the sag in her jowls along with roseacea and dry skin, that I
decided to treat her with the cosmetic acupuncture techniques that I
had learned. The fact that her skin looked smoother and less red
after a single treatment did not surprise me, as I had been quite
familiar with the anti-inflammatory effects of acupuncture. But to
our amazement there was an undeniable boost in her face. She indeed
looked younger! In such a case as this, the most immediate and
stunning effect was the toned and lifted flesh. The fact that it
lasted for months also amazed us.
Since then I’ve
integrated these treatments into my general practice. I’ve seen
cheekbones defined, wrinkles diminished, sagging reduced, eyes
brightened, scars faded, and self-esteem bolstered. One of the most
frequent comments I hear from my patients is "My friends keep
telling me how great I look!" What pleases me is that it is purely
an enhancement of their natural beauty, not a result of the
ultimately damaging effect of surgery or injectable toxins. In
addition, patients who have come to me initially for cosmetic
treatments have been empowered with knowledge that they can use to
improve their health and the appearance of their skin. Lifestyle
changes, many of which are quite easily adopted, are a critical
factor for maintaining long-term beauty. After all, the body heals
itself.
Cosmetic acupuncture is
more than just cosmetic, it’s holistic. I joyfully provide a service
to my patients that boosts their confidence while improving their
overall state of health. And seeing a patient walk out the door with
a big smile and lively eyes is indeed rewarding. They look great,
and they know
